Please join Hawaii Women Lawyers for our second brown bag in the “So You Want to be a Judge” series.  Our discussion with Judge Kristine Y. Yoo, Judge Shellie K. Park-Hoapili and Judge Natasha R. Shaw will focus on advice and information about the judicial appointment process for District and District Family Court Judges and insights into the judicial duties and responsibilities of District Court Judges.

District Court Judge Kristine Y. Yoo was appointed to the District Court of the First Circuit in 2018.  Prior to her appointment, she was a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the City & County of Honolulu’s Department of the Prosecuting Attorney for 14 years.  Judge Yoo also worked as an AmeriCorps attorney with Legal Aid Society of Hawaii, as well as with the litigation firm of Howie, Long & Smith in California.  She is a graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of Law, a former Pacific Century Fellow, and previously served as the Vice-President of Hawaii Women Lawyers.

District Court Judge Shellie K. Park-Hoapili was appointed in 2022 to the District Court of the First Circuit.  Prior to her appointment, Judge Park-Hoapili was a Hawaii Supreme Court Staff Attorney, an attorney at the firm Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing (now Dentons US LLP) and served as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Paula Nakayama (ret.).  Judge Park-Hoapili was born and raised on Hawaii Island, is a graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law, and is a former president of the Hawaii Women’s Legal Foundation and Hawaii Women Lawyers. 

District Family Court Judge Natasha R. Shaw was appointed to the District Family Court in 2022.  Prior to her appointment, she served as a Per Diem Judge in the District Family Court and worked at the Law Office of Natasha R. Shaw, LLLC.  Judge Shaw also served as a Kokua Kanawai and Special Master for the Probate Court and the Circuit Court, and was a law clerk for retired Chief Judge Colleen Hirai in the Circuit Court of the First Circuit. Judge Shaw is a graduate of Stetson University College of Law and is a former president of the Korean American Bar Association of Hawaii.
