Lady Lawyers Luncheon - Work-Life Balance: A View from the Trenches

I hope you're having a great summer. This is should be a very interesting luncheon focusing on our newest generation of lawyers and their take on the "work/life balance" issues, "from the trenches.". I hope you'll join us and will bring a younger lawyer who may not already be involved in HWL. This topic seems to always be the #1 concern for our members.

Please join us for lunch on Wednesday, July 31 to hear our young women lawyers' retort to work-life balance issues, "from the trenches." Our May luncheon heard perspectives from attorneys at the top of our profession on work-life balance issues, and yes, there was general consensus that even talking about work-life balance is a fraud!  So now it's time for a reality check on how our newest generation of women lawyers are managing to juggle these challenges. Is it easier or worse now than in decades past? How are the electronic revolution, marketplace competition and greater infiltration of women in the workplace affecting these issues? What are our young lawyers' greatest struggles and suggested solutions?

We will hear perspectives from three rising young stars:

Alicia Duffin, HSBA YLD director, staff attorney for House Majority Staff Office, Hawaii Smith College Alumni Admissions Coordinator, and volunteer for Hawaii Family Programs and YLD's Junior Judges program, all while planning her wedding and moving into a new townhouse.

Christy Gray, a former District Attorney in California with 35 jury trials under her belt, now in Hawaii with a busy new labor/employment practice, while raising 3 year old triplet boys as a single mother.

Miriah Holden, litigator in complex commercial cases, high volume collection practice, HSBA YLD Officer, ABA YLD District Representative (Hawai`i and Alaska), ABA YLD National Conferences Team, volunteer Guardian Ad Litem, Hawaii High Schools Mock Trial Coordinator, and star Quarterback for the Bruzers (Ete Bowl).

Invite a friend or colleague - the more, the merrier!  Please respond to by Friday, July 26 to let us know if you are coming.  We will meet at the Plaza Club, 20th Floor, 900 Fort Street Mall, on July 31 at Noon.  We will have an in-room lunch buffet with salad, soup, sandwich and desert for $22 (tea/drink is another $4-$5).  If you are an HWL member, mention that in your RSVP and you will be entered in a drawing for two free lunches for HWL members.
