Lady Lawyers Luncheon - Organ Donation, The Gift of Life

  • June 26, 2013
  • 12:00 PM
  • Plaza Club

Please join us for lunch on Wednesday, June 26 to consider life-and-death issues surrounding Organ and Tissue Donation.  Thousands of people die each year while awaiting a life-saving transplant.  Allocation issues are heart-wrenching, like the 10-year old dying girl in recent news stories, for whom a court has intervened.  Sadly, every transplant decision in favor of one patient means the likely death of another patient who is also on the list.  Who decides how to allocate these scarce gifts of life and how fair is the allocation system?  What are Hawai`i's unique challenges?  More importantly, how can we help increase the availability of organs and tissue for transplant?  And how many lives can YOU save by the simple act of being an organ donor?  Find out the answers to these and other interesting questions on June 26.

Our speakers will be Rachael Wong, DrPH, a local public health activist and leader whose receipt of a kidney transplant forever changed her life; and Casey Kickertz, RN, the Director of Organ Procurement for Legacy of Life Hawaii, who helps manage organ procurement and transplant activities in Hawaii`i.  Come enjoy their insights on these important issues!

Invite a friend or colleague - the more, the merrier!  Please respond to rosep@ahfi.com by Friday, June 21 to let us know if you are coming.  We will meet at the Plaza Club, 20th Floor, 900 Fort Street Mall, on June 26 at Noon.  We will have an in-room lunch buffet with salad, soup, sandwich and desert for $22 (tea/drink/coffee is another $5). If you are an HWL member, mention that in your RSVP and you will be entered in a drawing for two free lunches for HWL members.

And save these dates for future luncheons:  July 31, August 28 and September 25.
