Rainmaking (bringing in new clients) is a crucial key to success in private law practice.  Rainmaking can create higher income, greater control of calendar and work style, greater job security and better work/life balance. It can also allow you to choose the type of law practice, clients and staffing you want to work with, and delegate or pass on work you would rather not do. So don’t be a slave to your in-box and hourly work!  Come learn strategies and tips on how to create and implement a successful business development plan.

Warning:  Rainmaking requires significant time and effort.  But it’s well worth the effort.  And it sure beats the “Cinderella Syndrome” of thinking that just doing what’s in your In-box will bring you success  (that’s an “alternate fact,”by the way). So get greater control of your destiny and become a rainmaker!

Ellen Godbey Carson is a former President of HWL and HSBA and a former Director of Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing (now happily retired).  Ellen has initiated a Rainmaking Mentoring program for HWL and is mentoring several HWL members who earlier applied and were selected for this program.  Attendees at this November 13 program will be eligible to be considered for rainmaking mentoring based on a competitive application process.
