Summary: Women’s reproductive rights have become a focal point in both local and national news, especially on the brink of this historic election. Access to abortion and reproductive services has become increasingly scarce in rural, low-income and conservative parts of our country. In early 2016, Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt was argued in front of the Supreme Court and carried the potential to further erode the protections provided in Roe v. Wade or set the precedent to prevent retreat from those protections.. Christine Charbonneau, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands, will discuss this case, its implications in our history, and the potential outcomes reproductive rights advocates can now explore to preserve and expand the Constitutionally-protected right of a woman to control her own destiny.

Speaker: Chris Charbonneau is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands (PPGNHI), a  28 health center covering Hawaii, Alaska, Idaho and western Washington. She began her career as a volunteer in the Seattle Health Center in 1982 and worked her way up to CEO of the affiliate in 1993. Nationally renowned in the reproductive rights movement, Chris serves on multiple Boards of Directors and strives to continually fight back against restrictions on health care and infractions of social justice.
