Women are woefully under-represented in leadership positions in our state, from business and executives to judgeships and politics. Numerous challenges, both internal and external, continue to hold women back from leadership equality.

Successful leadership requires knowing how to overcome these biases, and "lean in" to leadership opportunities, as well as how to juggle conflicting schedules and priorities, inspire and oversee a team of assistants, and make the hard decisions.

Learn how to "lean in" to your leadership potential, as we discuss how to develop effective leadership skills to make the transition to leadership, and open the doors for more exciting leadership opportunities for qualified women.

Hon. Sabrina S. McKenna was sworn in as Associate Justice on March 3, 2011. She is a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a 1982 graduate of the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, where she served as Editor-in- Chief of the Law Review. Justice McKenna was a civil litigator, corporate counsel, and law professor before becoming a Hawaii state trial court judge in 1993. As a trial court judge, she presided in District, Circuit, and Family Courts, and also served as Senior Judge of the Family Court of the First Circuit.

Linda Chu Takayama is Director of the Hawaii State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. She previously served as executive director of the Honolulu Mayor’s Office of Economic Development; as state insurance commissioner and deputy director of the state department of commerce and consumer affair, and has served for two decades as chair of the Hawaii Foodbank. She is a graduate of George Mason University School of Law.

Ellen Godbey Carson is a director with Alston Hunt Floyd and Ing. She has also served as President of Hawaii Women Lawyers, the Hawaii State Bar Association, IHS, Sex Abuse Treatment Center, and Central Union Church. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and is a director of the Harvard Law School Women's Alliance.
