Lady Lawyers Luncheon - Fred Korematsu and the Case for Redress

  • January 30, 2013
  • 12:00 PM
  • Plaza Club

Please come and bring a friend to discuss this important topic and enjoy the Sisterhood of HWL friends!

Please join us for lunch on Wednesday, January 30 to help observe Fred Korematsu Day. Ellen Carson will share her experiences with Fred Korematsu and other activists in her role as one of the lead counsel for the class action lawsuit for Japanese American Redress for the government's mass exile and imprisonment of persons of Japanese ancestry during World War II. As you may recall, Fred and others were convicted for defying the government's orders, and filed appeals in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the incarceration of Japanese Americans was justified by military necessity. That precedent remains today and endangers other vulnerable minorities in a way that calls on each of us to be eternally vigilant in protecting the rights of others. Join us to discuss these issues.

Invite a friend or colleague - the more, the merrier! Please respond to ecarson@ahfi.com by Monday, January 28, 2013 to let us know if you are coming. We will meet at the Plaza Club, 20th Floor, 900 Fort Street Mall, on January 30 at Noon. Lunch costs range from $12.00 to $22.00 ($20.00 for the big salad bar), tea/drink is another $3.00-5.00.

If you are an HWL member, mention that in your RSVP and you will be entered in a drawing for two free lunches for HWL members.  Our private room charges for a minimum of 10 guests, so if you find you cannot make it after all, please find a substitute or let us know well in advance
