Lady Lawyers Luncheon - Ending Homelessness? A View from the Trenches

  • October 08, 2014
  • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
  • Plaza Club, 20th Floor, 900 Fort Street Mall

Please join us on October 8 to hear perspectives from "the trenches" on Homelessness by Connie Mitchell, Executive Director of the Institute for Human Services (IHS).  As the leader of our State's largest shelters for homeless men, women and families, Connie helps address the critical needs and challenges of providing housing and support services for persons who are homeless in our community.  She will discuss current strategies being implemented, what more needs to be done, and why our local context matters so much.  Come be informed on critical issues including Housing First, sit/lie ordinances, complex needs of chronically homeless persons, and the status of community collaboration on homelessness.

Connie Mitchell is Executive Director of IHS and a psychiatric nurse by training (MS, APRN).  IHS sleeps more than 350 guests nightly and serves up to 7,000 meals a week.  Connie oversees IHS's staff (about 100), who coordinate housing, case management, employment training, medical and mental health services and other support to help transform lives of homeless persons.  Her awards include the Community Leader for Mental Health and Ho'okele Nonprofit Leadership Excellence Award.

Invite a friend or colleague - the more, the merrier!  Please respond to rosep@ahfi.com by Monday, October 6 if possible, to let us know you are coming.  We will meet at the Plaza Club, 20th Floor, 900 Fort Street Mall.  The in-room lunch buffet with salad, soup, sandwich and desert costs $22 (tea/drink is another $4-$5).  If you are an HWL member, mention that in your RSVP and you will be entered in a drawing for two free lunches for HWL members.  If you need to cancel an RSVP, please do so ASAP, before the stated deadline, so we don't get charged for your meal!
